Absent Friends

From 2010 to 2015, Rosie Soul was a musical powerhouse, touring the mid-Atlantic region and thrilling fans with original music and popular cover songs delivered with a rock-n-roll edge. The band’s tremendous momentum came to a sudden halt when “Rosie” (aka Cat Lloyd) was diagnosed with breast cancer, which would ultimately require aggressive surgery and treatment. Fans rallied around Rosie for their final show in July of 2015, with the local radio station even changing their name for a day in honor of the final show.

Ultimately, Rosie recovered from her surgery and remains cancer-free. As the years passed, the timing never felt right to return to the stage until recently. The band announced a reunion show on September 14, 2024, on the same stage where they played their last show, Law Tigers Pavilion at Richmond Harley-Davidson. The band will headline the Rewind Festival, which benefits the Tiki Five-O Foundation, a non-profit that supports area law enforcement officers and their families.  

The band wanted to give fans something fresh as the reunion show approached, so they reached out to long-time friend and country music star Tony Jackson to record a duet of “Absent Friends,” a song written by band members Cat and Jaime Lloyd. The band released the song in 2012 on its Serial Thilla EP under Rosie Soul & the Rock-n-Roll Cowboys. The song was recorded at Full Circle Studio in Chester, VA, produced by Jaime Lloyd, and engineered by Dan Uphoff.  

The song is a tribute to loved ones who have passed and keeping their memories alive. To produce a lyric video supporting the release, Tony had the idea to reach out to fans, inviting them to add their loved one’s name to be used in the lyric video.  All the names submitted can be seen near the end of the video, creating a powerful tribute to loved ones who have passed on. 

“Absent Friends” is available on all digital music outlets on August 9th. The lyric video will also be available that day on all social media outlets and the band's website.
